Public Relations Specialist, Health

Location: Rockville, Maryland

Position: Full-time or part-time for the right candidate

Education: B.A. or B.S. in communications, journalism, English, or health-related field

Experience:

  • Ability to work with reporters to pitch and place stories on substance abuse research and addiction science
  • Three to five years of media relations and health/science writing experience
  • Ability to summarize scientific research for the media and general public
  • Federal Government contracting experience preferred
  • Knowledge of GPO style
  • Motivated, flexible, strong problem-solving skills, and able to work with a team
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and updating press lists
  • Tracking and confirming publication dates for research studies
  • Writing press releases, advisories, and newsletter articles on health/science issues
  • Developing marketing and promotion plans
  • Coordinating press events
  • Assembling press kits
  • Conducting daily news searches
  • Preparing monthly reports
