Home News MasiMax’s Dr. Genevro Appointed to NIH Review Board
Janice Genevro, Ph.D., a Senior Prevention Integration Manager at MasiMax Resources, Inc., headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, has been appointed to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
As a new appointee, Dr. Genevro will serve a 1-year renewable term on this IRB, which protects the rights and safeguards the welfare of the human subjects of research conducted by intramural investigators at NHGRI. "I am delighted for Jan and her appointment to the IRB," said Marilyn Massey-Ball, President and CEO of MasiMax. "Our company is dedicated to Advancing Knowledge Exchange for a Safe and Healthy Society, and that mission blends well with the work that Jan will be doing on the IRB. Her professional experience and expertise in the areas of social science and behavioral health make her an important addition to the IRB, and we look forward to supporting her as she performs this extremely important public service."
Dr. Genevro has a master’s degree in social work and received her Ph.D. in health psychology from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). After graduating from UCSF, she was a National Research Council Research Associate and Intramural Research Fellow at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and served on the IRB of NICHD. Her experiences as a practitioner and researcher led to a deep interest in the translation of research into practice, with an emphasis on health promotion and health behavior. Dr. Genevro currently works on a MasiMax communications contract at the Center for Primary Care, Prevention, and Clinical Partnerships, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. As a Senior Prevention Integration Manager, Dr. Genevro develops, tests, and refines print and electronic products designed to bring evidence-based clinical preventive services recommendations to the point of care.
MasiMax provides health communications, information management, and environmental health and safety services to government and commercial clients. The company is dedicated to managing and disseminating information to improve the safety, health, and welfare of citizens throughout our global society.
NHGRI began as the National Center for Human Genome Research (NCHGR), which was established in 1989 to carry out the role of NIH in the International Human Genome Project. In 1997 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services renamed NCHGR the National Human Genome Research Institute, officially elevating it to the status of a research institute—one of 27 Institutes and Centers that make up NIH. Now with the human genome sequence complete since April 2003, scientists around the world have access to a database that greatly facilitates and accelerates the pace of biomedical research.
